Crisis Line Advocate
The Crisis Line is the 'central station" of services at the agency. It is a domestic violence helpline that operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year providing free and confidential support services to victims, service providers, police officers, family members, schools and the community at large. Advocates provide support by actively listening and problem-solving. Calls can range from basic safety planning, affirmation, talking someone through the restraining order process, to making referrals to community resources, including other services offered by DAIS. Crisis Line Advocates are critical to ensure that this high-quality service continues to be accessible to all people whose lives are touched by domestic violence. The Crisis Line provides an excellent learning experience that is as challenging as it is satisfying!

Children's Advocate
The Children's Program provides children from violent homes with opportunities to engage in positive activities in a safe, structured environment. Advocates need to be flexible, patient, and will be co-facilitating group activities for children of various ages, ability levels, and backgrounds. Prior experience working with children is preferred. Activity groups are in the evenings. Flexible daytime and weekend shifts are also available. The Children's Program provides rewarding experiences for individuals who enjoy working with children.

Individuals interested in volunteering as a Crisis Line, Children’s or Support Group Advocate must complete Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS) New Advocate Training. The New Advocate Training is held 2-3 per year. Additional observation shifts, program meetings, and in-services are required. Advocates must be at least 18 years old, have the ability to work with diverse populations, and to maintain confidentiality. DAIS requires Advocates to make at least a one year commitment of one shift per week. Shift times, days, and length may vary by program.

Office Assistant
Office Assistants answer the Domestic Abuse Intervention Services business phone line, and assist with mailings, data entry, and other office duties. Office Assistants are asked to make a commitment of 2-4 hours per week for six months, between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. Gain office skills while supporting and connecting to a great agency.

Volunteer Attorneys
Attorneys can volunteer for the DAIS Legal Clinic which is held every two weeks, and gives consumers the chance to consult with an attorney over the phone. Most consumer questions are about family law issues and attorneys usually volunteer one or two times per year. The DAIS Legal Advocates compile a list of questions from a maximum of five consumers and fax it to the attorney the day before their shift. Law degree required. Offer your legal expertise for an incredible agency.

Board of Directors
Our agency is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who serve two year terms. The Board is developing a pool of volunteers who are interested in working on time-limited projects without having to make a two year commitment to being a Board member. Volunteers work on Board committees that are chaired by a Board member and target specific projects, such as; fundraising events, Adopt-a-Family holiday giving programs, or administrative projects. This opportunity is exciting, challenging and a great way to connect with DAIS and secure its future.
