Host a Friend-raiser
Are you looking for a fun and meaningful way to engage your friends and colleagues to make a difference? DAIS “Friend-raisers” are great opportunities for your friends to come together to help end domestic violence and support families fleeing violence. Friend-raisers are a GREAT way to help raise awareness about domestic violence, while also raising funds and/or donated items to help a very important cause.
DAIS supporters have hosted a wide variety of “friend-raiser” events, including:
- Holiday brunches
- Mother’s Day teas
- Cocktail hours
- Film nights
- Softball tournaments
- Speed-dating events

Every year, the Celebrate Independence! Luncheon gives members of our community the chance to come together and learn about domestic violence and what we, as a community, can do to help end it. The Celebrate Independence! Luncheon also acts as DAIS’ largest fundraising event of the year.

The DAIS “Adopt-a-Family” program provides holiday gifts to DAIS Shelter residents and other clients and families living in crisis.
The holidays can be an extremely stressful time for families suffering the effects of domestic violence. Parents who are experiencing abuse may be so focused on day-to-day survival for themselves and their families that it can be extremely difficult to buy holiday gifts for their children. Other clients may have escaped their abusers, but they may have had to leave many possessions behind (or their abusers may have destroyed their possessions), so they are basically starting over.
You can make the holidays a less stressful time for families escaping violence by participating in the DAIS “Adopt-a-Family” program. Families fill out individual wish lists. The wish lists are matched with DAIS supporters, who purchase the gifts on the wish lists.
It’s incredibly rewarding to see the happiness and relief on families’ faces when they receive their holiday gifts. It’s also incredibly heartwarming to see how generous the community can be!

An easy way for your office to make a difference is through a DAIS Cell Phone Drive. Simply publicize the drive, inviting co-workers to bring in their old and unwanted cell phones.
