Finding Help:
Legal Program

DAIS Legal Program
To reach the Legal Program, call the 24-hour crisis line at 608-251-4445 or 1-800-747-4045. A crisis line advocate can offer support, resources, and general legal information, and can connect you to the Legal Program.

If you live outside of Dane County, you can call 1-800-799-SAFE to be connected to a program near you.

The DAIS Legal Program provides support, information, and advocacy to people who have been abused by their intimate partners; are victims of stalking; or are vulnerable adults.

Brochures with this information are available in Spanish and English and can be obtained by calling our Crisis Line at 251-4445.

Criminal Justice System Support
DAIS Legal Advocates provide information and advocacy about the criminal justice process including arrest, prosecution of the offender, the probation and parole system, and the Crime Victim Compensation Program.

Family Law Information
DAIS Legal Advocates provide basic information and support about divorce, legal separation, child custody and placement, paternity, child support, and other family law issues to people who have been abused by an intimate partner. In addition, we offer advocacy in the family law system. A legal advocate may be able to accompany you to court for a family law-related hearing. We can also provide attorney referrals if you want or need legal representation in the family court system.

Legal Clinic
For more complex legal questions, our Legal Advocates can provide consumer questions to an attorney who has volunteered their time to the DAIS Legal Program.  The attorney then calls the consumer back at a pre-arranged date and time.  The DAIS Legal Program is always seeking volunteer attorneys to assist consumers with their legal issues. Please call the DAIS Legal Program at (608) 251-1237 ext 133 if you are an attorney interested in volunteering..
