Sheltering Animals of Abuse Victims (SAAV)
Domestic abuse is about the power and control an abuser exercises over the abused.  Abusers often use pets to leverage power over the family through threats, cruelty, and even death. Statistics show that many victims and children of victims remain in violent situations because they are afraid of leaving their pets behind. This is a choice no one should ever have to make.

The SAAV Program may allow victims staying in shelter at DAIS at the time of intake into the program to place pets in temporary, safe and confidential foster care for a period of up to 90 days.  The SAAV Program is a collaboration by DAIS, the Dane County Humane Society www.giveshelter.org and Wisconsin United for Furry Friends (WUFF)  www.wuffinfo.org
